How To Find Killer Domain Names!

Being in the Real Estate business, and with the evolution we are experiencing and the birth of Web 2.0, you really need to think of a killer domain name for your business. The domain name does not have to be the name of your company, a domain name should convey a message or reflects your services.

Couple of quick tips for a good domain name. Keep the name short and avoid dashes, and tie it to your Unique Selling Proposition if you want it to have higher impact both on the prospects, and Search engine ranking.

I know you may think finding good domain names is almost impossible now a days. I used to think that myself, but good domain names are available. Just last year I purchased the following domains for my investing business:

CashFastHomes.com
CashNowBuysHouses.com
GreatChoiceHomes.com

and this year I got:

WePricehomes.com
CashOffer4Homes.com
CashToday4Homes.com

I have few others, but you get the point.

Having more than one domain name is not a bad idea, but keep in mind that Google will only index one domain name per site. I like to register any nice domain name I find in case I need to spin off another website in the future.

In the example above and my choice for these domain names is directly tied to my marketing message and my Unique Selling Proposition. I offer cash fast, I sell great homes and my buyers have made great choice, and I offer cash today.  I plan on activating some of these domains when I finish developing a solid business plan.

The point I am trying to make here is that you SHOULD buy as many domains as you can even if you don’t plan on using them because you never know when they become handy.

How To Come Up With Killer Name!

First, few rules about name selection:

1. Make sure it has .COM extension. Don’t use .NET,.ORG, or any of the newer extensions. People tend to think .COM first. It is the 1-800 number of websites
2. When it comes to marketing to prospects, no one cares about your company or your name!. So use a name that supports your marketing message
3. Make it short, no dashes, easy to spell and remember

So how do you find good names:

First, you SHOULD register your full name or your last name if it is still available. Register it right now, do not wait, and do not put it off for another day. Even if you do not plan on using it, it is who you are and when all businesses moved online, you will have your own identity online. I have fadizeidan.com registered and I do plan on branding my name for future business. Again, register your name before its taken! I’ll show you how in a second.

Second, you need to find good domain names to support your Unique Selling Propositions.I usually do two things when I am looking for domain names:

I think of a strong message I want to convey to my prospects, come up with few words that describe or support that message, then research available domain names matching combinations of there words This could be a tedious task, but I have found a good website that helps you with this task. It even suggests alternative words and show available domain names. The site I use for my search is www.domainsbot.com don’t worry it is free. When I use that site, I always unselect the "For Sale", "Expiring Soon", and all extensions except the .COM.

STOP! OK I said I use this site to search for available domain names, but I never use it to register them. We will cover that part in a second.

My second approach is to buy them off of eBay! thats right,  I hit eBay every now and then and search for "Real Estate" ".COM" combination. I browse the available domains for sale, and if I like one, I buy it. I have purchased few off of eBay.

How To Register Domain Names

If you bought it off of eBay, the seller will transfer it to your hosting account, usually Go Daddy account. The seller should provide you with the steps to follow.

If you found the domain name yourself however, it is time to register it. Domain name registration and renewal varies from company to company, I pay about $6 per year for each of my domain names. The companies I use for hosting and to hold my domain names are 1 and 1 and Go Daddy. Another company to consider is Hostgator, they are another excellent host company.

YOU SHOULD REGISTER AT LEAST YOUR NAME RIGHT NOW!
