If you have read my post The 10 Minute Sales Letter Formula Guaranteed To Generate Leads, I have talked about how to write a winning sales letter in 10 minutes. By the way, if you have not read it, PLEASE DO SO!
Well, it is time now to talk about the content of the letter little more. To be precise, the fill in the blank portion that was left out of that article. For those of you who are English Major or English Language Conservatives, I am about to break all the rules! Not because I like to, but because it is what sells. If that offends you, then by all means, feel free to use another concept.
So lets get started:
Whenever possible, use mail merge and personalize the message. This gives the prospect a more warm and fuzzy feeling and more interested in reading since it is addressed to him specifically. Mail Merge is a common function in just about every Contact Management software or Word Processors.
Whenever you write, write in a conversation style. Talk to your prospect as if he was sitting in your living room. Use "you" and "yours" not "his" and "theirs". You need to make them feel as if you are addressing them specifically and talking about their problems and not general problems.
You need to be very passionate in your writing! Don’t worry if it sounds too strong. The more passion you add into your writing, the more you will connect with them. It is better for some to feel you might be overdoing it than to have few feel it is cold and not respond.
If Zig Ziglar taught me anything, it would be that you really need to believe in what you have to offer or you will never convince them to do business with you. If you cannot offer the same services to your own parents with clear concisions, then you will not be able to convince prospects to do business with you. If you have any doubts about your services, offers, or guarantees you are making and find answers for them before you start marketing.
Keep your sentences short and avoid lengthy ones. The more white space they see, the easier it is for them to read. You also need to avoid being too technical or boring. You risk losing their interest in doing business with you.
Write as if you are writing to an 8 year old. While everyone knows they are smarter than an 8 year old, people don’t have time to try and understand what you have to say. Besides, the simpler it is, the easier for them to read on and understand.
Everything you write, should contribute to convincing them to do business with you in a direct or indirect way. Give them many reasons to talk to you. It is OK to sell them over and over. In fact, you should try to get them to call you at least three times in your letter.
Don’t think for a second that they know what to do and they will do the right thing. Give them incentives to respond right away. Tell them exactly what to do. Don’t just give them a phone number and hope they call, TELL THEM and GIVE THEM a reason to call right away.
For example, give them deadlines, guarantees, free gifts. Whatever it takes to get them to call. The value of a customer will more than pay for anything you give them to get them to call.
Happy Marketing!
